Český Krumlov is a town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town escaped the bombings in World War II, and that is why is so well preserved.

This small town is very photogenic and is a delight to walk through.

This can be a covered as a day trip from Prague (a hectic one) or spend a night here - definitely a relief from the crowd there in Prague.

I would highly recommend spending a night in one of the many charming guest houses there.

How to reach Český Krumlov from Prague

There are direct trains from Prague, Na Knížecí to Český Krumlov, Špičák(regiojet trains) and it costs around €8. It takes 2:45 minutes and the trains have Internet connection, lavatory and AC. Individual screens with films and other forms of entertainment.

These train run every one hour from 6 AM to 7 PM and the last one is at 9PM from Prague.

The details are available at https://www.regiojet.com/

If you plan a day trip, please refer to this to make sure you can get the last train back.

Attractions / Things to do

1. Český Krumlov Castle and clock Tower- dates back to 1240 when the first castle was built. The Castle is very beautiful. Do not miss climbing up to the tower for absolutely stunning view of the town.

The castle tower offers this stunning view.

2. Castle Garden -The Baroque castle gardens founded in the 17th century is the largest, part of the entire castle complex. It is situated on the rise and slope adjacent to the complex of castle buildings around the Vth Courtyard of Český Krumlov Castle from the southwestern side.

Well maintained castle grounds with wide, even walkways with wide variety of flowers, offering splashes of color everywhere. Take your time to stroll through this beautiful garden and take some pics.

3. Church of St. Vitus - Near the main square lies this lovely church with gothic design and very well maintained. It is an important late-Gothic monument from 1407–1438, with later modifications. In 1995 it was declared a National Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic.

This church is close to the castle, so one can cover it after the castle.

4. Historic center of Český Krumlov- This is amazing and very colorful. Lots of historic houses surrounded by a river gives this place a beautiful atmosphere. Also, there are many bars, cafes and eateries where you can enjoy a tasty meal, a drink or a cup of coffee.

Where to Stay-

As I already mention you can either chose it as a day trip from Prague (hectic) or just take it easy and spent a night there.

There are many cozy guesthouses for night stay. I would recommend them if you would like to enjoy the feeling of living in traditional Czech house.

We lived in one such called Penzion Parkán, by the river at the center with the view of the castle . Breakfast was included, which was good.

The guesthouse has a restaurant which serves homemade Czech food and offers this beautiful view. I loved the home made food there.

There are many other restaurants nearby where you can enjoy a tasty meal as well. This was one restaurant across the bridge where we had dinner. Food was good there as well.

This is a picture perfect town where you can’t get lost, walk every street of the tourist areas. Also, there are many inviting places to sit and enjoy a meal, coffee or a drink.
